Design and comparative analysis of alternative mooring systems for floating wind turbines in shallow water with emphasis on ultimate limit state design

Floating wind turbines represent a cost-efficient energy solution in deep water where bottom-fixed turbine becomes excessively expensive. However, mooring design is quite challenging for all shallow depths including the transition depth between and floating turbines, order of 50–80 m, which concepts might become more cost-effective than ones. In this paper, system are studied considering both catenary taut systems. Seven designed 5 MW semi-submersible at 50 m compared with purpose to identify solutions that structurally reliable economically attractive. The made different line materials (chain synthetic fibre rope), components (clump weight buoy) anchors (drag embedment anchor suction anchor). Based on latest experimental data, nonlinear tension-dependent stiffness rope described an improved numerical model. Performance seven respect characteristics, motion response amplitude operator, utilization factor ultimate limit state cost etc. Six finally recommended future assessment regarding application say deeper.
